Electrical Safety
WARNING:
Working with household alternating electrical is dangerous. If you get electrocuted you can DIE or worst be maimed for life. Be sure to read and follow all SAFETY precautions while working on this project.
If you are unsure at any time or are afraid of working with alternating current, call an electrician. They are not that expensive. If your outlet will be located near the electrical panel you can find a professional electrician to do the job for around $200 parts included.
RULES:
- Always turn off the MAIN BREAKER before working on the electrical panel.
- After shutting off the MAIN BREAKER, test to make sure current is not flowing into the branch circuit breakers.
- DO NOT test or touch the main hot wires coming into the electrical panel from the utility company. They are always HOT.
- Put a piece of flat wood on the ground where you will be working and stand on that.
- Wear rubber soled shoes
- Wear thick leather gloves when handling. DO NOT start sticking your bare hands all around the electrical panel.
- Hold one hand behind your back and only work with one hand when working inside the electrical panel.
