COLOR CODING:
Alternating Current wire color coding IS NOT THE SAME as direct current that you find in your flashlight or car.

Black = HOT.

Red =HOT.

White = NEUTRAL (white can also act as HOT).

Green = GROUND.

Black is NOT ground.

These are picture of the electrical panel in my home. Yours will vary. There are many different models but ALL will share the same basic blueprint. Remember... Stay SAFE and if you are unsure call an electrician.!
